More about the Bible

What are the Apocrypha?

The Apocrypha are those books rejected as non-Bibical and contrary to Catholic Church tradition, and are not included in the canon of the Bible.

How many Versions of the Bible are there?

There are more than 80,000 versions of the Bible. New versions of the Bible continue to be added or updated. Popular English versions include American Standard, Jerusalem and King James versions.

How do Bible versions differ from one another?

Versions of the Bible differ from another in age, languages, books they include and translations from original texts.

What are the original languages of the Bible?

The original languages of the Bible are Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.

Who wrote the Bible?

While the Catholic Church states that the Holy Spirit is the author of the Bible, the human authors of the Bible are many, both known and unknown. The only portion of the Bible written directly by God, is the Ten Commandments. The original ten Commandments (together with the manna and Aaron's rod) had been preserved in the Ark of the Covenant, but that is now lost.

We do not learn about the existence of the new Ark of the Covenant until the 11th Chapter of the Book of Revelations in the New Testament, when the gates of the new temple of Jerusalem are opened revealing the Ark. In the 12th Chapter of Revelations, the woman (Mary, the new Eve) who carries Jesus, is revealed.

In a similar manner, the mistake made by Adam in the garden of Eden, is redeemed by Jesus in The Garden of Gethsemane in the New Testament.

This common thread between Old and New Testaments, although greatly varied in time and language, points to a common author.

How old is the Bible?

Parts of the Bible are thousands of years old. The first canonical complete Bible is from the time of the Council of Rome (382 AD).

How is the Bible organized?

The Bible is divided into the Old and New Testament.

The Old Testament records Salvation History prior to the time of Jesus. Jews call the Old Testament, The Tanakh, and is divided into 3 parts, the first of which is the Torah.

The New Testament records the life of Jesus, as well as the acts of the early Church.

Who can interpret the meaning of the Bible?

While it is tempting to suppose that everyone interprets the Bible in the same way, such is not the case. While in many sections, the meaning of the Bible is clear, in other sections, the Church is required to interpret the Bible. Early interpretations of New Testament Scripture are by the Fathers of the Church.

Contributions to the Bible

What is the Bible?

The Bible is a collection of books (Biblos) revealing God's Salvation plan for man. The Bible is a superb symphony of orchestrated interrelated themes, such as the Blessed Trinity, Creation, Praise, sin, the Ark, Sacrifice, Heaven, Hell, Judgement, Revelation, and Redemption.

These themes are initiated in the Old Testament, and developed and fulfilled in the New Testament. Bible themes are expressed in modes such as narratives, poetry, letters, biographies, chronicles, examples, sermons and parables.

Who determined which Books were to be included or excluded from the Bible?

The Catholic Church determined which books were to be included and excluded from Bible. To accept the Bible, while denying the early Church (with its Bishops, Bishop of Rome, Priests and Councils) that composed the Bible is an absurdity.

What was the basis for including or excluding certain books of the Bible?

Early Church Councils reviewed submitted books, and tested them against Church tradition. Books contradicting Catholic Church Tradition (for example denying the Divinity of Jesus) were excluded. The final canon (list) of Bible books was issued by the Council of Rome in 382 AD, and promulgated by Pope Damasus.

Why was the Bible written?

The Bible was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, so that we might learn how God loves, thinks and what he expects from us. The original New Testament, in particular, was written by Catholic men, married to the Church, under the Spirit's inspiration, so that we might learn about the God's plan for the Church and His people

How to Download the Bible - Hallelujah chorus

If we look at the context in which those passages are found, we soon learn just how way off the mark people are in their understanding of the message contained in the real Hallelujah chorus.

The first passage from Revelation 19:6 must be taken in its Scriptural setting, and that is Revelation 19:1-6, which reads as follows:

" And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth."

We will note that there is more than one 'AlleluYAH' here. In fact there are four - possibly five, it we count the phrase in verse 5 "Praise our God," which has the sense of Hallel (praise), to God (whose name is Yah). This is perhaps reflected in the music which has many "Hallelujahs" in the chorus.

The reason given for the first Alleluyah is that God's judgements are true and righteous - "for He hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and (because God) has avenged the blood of His servants..."

So this is a song of praise to God, because He has brought justice on the earth, and has judged this wicked and immoral system that has murdered His servants.

We can be certain that King George II, Handel, or the thousands of people who stand up when the chorus is sung - have any such thoughts in mind.

The second Alleluyah (Revelation 19:3) is because the "smoke of her burning rose up for ever and ever" - meaning that the destruction of this system will be an on-going judgement, until it is complete. That leads us to the next Alleluyah in verse 4 "AMEN, Alleluyah." Amen is a Hebrew word that means 'Truth.' This is the ultimate victory of the Truth over a false and corrupt system symbolized as a "whore." That is ecclesiastical Rome, as Revelation chapter 17 makes clear. So verse 5 calls upon the servants of God to praise Him, for He is the God of Truth.

The final Alleluyah of verse 6 is because all opposition has been overcome, and the Lord God is omnipotent - meaning All Powerful. He has ABSOLUTE POWER in the earth, and is therefore King of kings and Lord of lords, as we read in Revelation 19:16.

This idea is also seen in the prophecy of Daniel where we read of the "prince of princes" (chapter 8:25). Here, and in the Revelation, it is a reference to Christ and his saints.

The words of Revelation 11:15 have been inserted into Handel's Hallelujah chorus, which conclude the idea of the whole world becoming the dominion of Israel's Messiah and his faithful followers. As we read in Daniel 7:27.

"And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him."

So the kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign for ever and ever.

The Gospel According to St. John

1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God. 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 1:7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 1:8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The Digital King James Bible

We are a group of young grad students providing you with a quick and convenient method of reading and navigating The King James Bible, both Old and New Testament.

The past decade has seen a massive movement into what could be called the digital age, where the internet and electronic devices are being distributed and used ubiquitously among the general population at an increasingly rapid rate. What we are witnessing is a transition of mass media from paper based distribution to electronic distribution; people are not only using electronic media more frequently to receive entertainment and news (newspapers around the country are currently going out of print and moving to electronic distribution instead), but are also using the internet and mobile devices for reading material. It follows then, that the Christian Movement, to remain current and up to date, must also transition to electronic, or internet based distribution, of the Christian message, which originates from The Kings Bible.

We would hope you choose to help the Christian Movement with this transition and download the King James Bible. You may share your copy with friends and family, and in fact, we encourage you to do so.
